The Three Types of Concentration (Samādhi / समाधि)

UpacārasamādhiउपचारसमाधिAccess Concentration: Concentration that nears absorption by suppressing the hindrances. It is “neighborhood” concentration.
Appanāsamādhiअर्पणासमाधिAbsorption Concentration: An unshakable state where the mind is fully absorbed into the object (the Jhanas).
Khaṇikasamādhiक्षणिकसमाधिMomentary Concentration: Strong, clear concentration on changing mental/physical phenomena, occurring moment-to-moment during insight.
