कतमानि अशीत्यनुव्यञ्जनानि? ताम्रनखाश्च बुद्धा भगवन्तः…
Translation
What are the eighty minor marks? The Blessed Buddhas have copper-colored nails.
Sanskrit
स्निग्धनखाश्च उत्तुङ्गनखाश्च वृत्ताङ्गुलिनखाश्च चित्ताङ्गुलयश्च अनुपूर्वाङ्गुलयश्च
Translation
Glossy nails, high (convex) nails, rounded fingernails, charming fingers, and tapering fingers.

गूढशिराश्च निर्ग्रन्थिशिराश्च गूढगुल्फाश्च
Translation
Hidden veins, veins without knots, and hidden ankles.

सिंहविक्रान्तगामिनश्च नागविक्रान्तगामिनश्च हंसविक्रान्तगामिनश्च वृषभविक्रान्तगामिनश्च
Translation
A gait like a lion, a gait like an elephant, a gait like a swan, and a gait like a noble bull.

प्रदक्षिणगामिनश्च चारुगामिनश्च अवक्रगात्राश्च वृत्तगात्राश्च अनुपूर्वगात्राश्च
Translation
Turning to the right when walking, a graceful gait, straight limbs, rounded limbs, and tapering limbs.

Translation
Broad and heavy limbs, complete marks, even steps, pure limbs, and soft limbs.

विशुद्धगात्राश्च उत्सदगात्राश्च सुसंहतगात्राश्च सुविभक्तप्रत्यङ्गाश्च
Translation
Perfectly clean limbs, prominent limbs, well-knit limbs, and well-proportioned body parts.

वितिमिरशुद्धलोचनाश्च वृत्तकुक्षयश्च मृष्टकुक्षयश्च अभग्नकुक्षयश्च क्षामोदराश्च
Translation
Clear eyes without dimness, rounded bellies, smooth bellies, unbent bellies, and a slender waist.

गम्भीरनाभयश्च आवर्तनाभयश्च समन्तप्रासादिकाश्च शुचिसमाचाराश्च
Translation
A deep navel, a right-spiraling navel, graceful from all sides, and pure in conduct.

Translation
A body free of moles or dark spots, hands as soft as cotton, glossy palm-lines, and deep palm-lines.

A face that is not too long, and a mouth with teeth reflecting like a mirror.

Translation
A soft tongue, a copper-colored tongue, a voice like the thunder of a cloud or an elephant’s roar, and a sweet, deep, and pleasant voice.

वृत्तदंष्ट्राश्च तीक्ष्णसमदंष्ट्राश्च अनुपूर्वदंष्ट्राश्च तुङ्गनासाश्च शुचिनासाश्च
Translation
Rounded eye-teeth, sharp and even eye-teeth, tapering eye-teeth, a prominent nose, and a clean nose.

विशालनयनाश्च आयतलेखनाश्च वि(कसि)तपद्मनयनाश्च नीलोत्पलदलनयनाश्च व्यायतपीनचक्षुषश्च
Translation
Large eyes, long eyebrows, eyes like a blooming lotus, eyes like blue lotus petals, and wide, full eyes.

आयतभ्रुवश्च समरोमभ्रुवश्च स्निग्धभ्रुवश्च पीनायतकर्णाश्च समकर्णाश्च अनुपहतकर्णाश्च
Translation
Long eyebrows, eyebrows with even hair, glossy eyebrows, large and long ears, even ears, and unimpaired ears.

सुपरिणतललाटाश्च सुपरिपूर्णाश्च भ्रमरसदृशकेशाश्च वृत्तकेशाश्च शुक्लकेशाश्च
Translation
A well-formed forehead, a full forehead, hair as black as a bee, rounded hair, and pure hair.

असंसुढितकेशाश्च अपरुषकेशाश्च सुपरिकेशाश्च
Translation
Hair that is not tangled, hair that is not coarse, and well-groomed hair.
Sanskrit
श्रीवत्सस्वस्तिकनन्द्यावर्तचक्रवज्रपद्ममत्स्यादिलाञ्छनपादतलाश्च बुद्धा भगवन्तो भवन्ति।
Translation
The Blessed Buddhas have the soles of their feet marked with the Śrīvatsa, Svastika, Nandyāvarta, Wheel, Vajra, Lotus, and Fish.

इमानि भिक्षवस्तथागतस्य अशीत्यनुव्यञ्जनानि काये निर्वृतानि॥
Translation
O monks, these are the eighty minor marks accomplished on the body of the Tathāgata.
The Buddha’s Exhortation

यदुत अर्थविनिश्चयं नाम धर्मपर्यायमिति…
Translation
As stated by the Blessed One: “Monks, I will teach you the Dharma, beautiful in the beginning, beautiful in the middle, and beautiful in the end, with the right meaning and expression; I reveal the holy life that is entirely complete, pure, and radiant—namely, the discourse on Dharma known as the ‘Determination of Meaning’ (Arthaviniścaya).”

भिक्षवोऽरण्यायतनानि शून्यागाराणि पर्वतकन्दरगिरिगुहा…
Translation
Monks, here are forest dwellings, empty houses, mountain caves, rock grottos, straw huts, open spaces, cemeteries, and forest groves.

भिक्षवो मा प्रमाद्यध्वम्। मा पश्चाद्विप्रतिसारिणो भविष्यथ। इदमस्माकमनुशासनम्॥
Translation
“Monks, do not be negligent! Do not be remorseful later. This is our instruction to you.”
The Conclusion of the Sutra

अस्मिन् खलु धर्मपर्याये भाष्यमाणे पञ्चानां भिक्षुशतानामास्रवेभ्यश्चितानि विमुक्तानि॥
Translation
While this discourse on Dharma was being spoken, the minds of five hundred monks were liberated from the outflows (āsravas).

इदमवोचद्भगवान्। आत्तमनसस्ते च भिक्षवः सा च सर्वावती पर्षत्…
Translation
The Blessed One said this. The monks were uplifted in mind, and the entire assembly—including gods, humans, asuras, and gandharvas—rejoiced in what the Blessed One had said.

आर्य-अर्थविनिश्चयो नाम धर्मपर्यायः समाप्तः॥
Translation
The Noble Discourse on Dharma called the Determination of Meaning is complete.
