Muni's Play(३) अष्टादश धातवः — The Eighteen Elements
Sanskrit
तत्र भिक्षवं कतमेऽष्टदश धातवः ?
Translation
In that regard, monks, what are the eighteen elements?
Sanskrit
तद्यथा-चक्षुधातुः। रूपधातुः। चक्षुर्विज्ञानधातुः।
Translation
Namely: the eye element, the form element, and the eye-consciousness element.
Sanskrit
श्रोतधातुः। शब्दधातुः। श्रोत्रविज्ञानधातुः॥
Translation
The ear element, the sound element, and the ear-consciousness element.
Sanskrit
घ्राणधातुः। गन्धधातुः। घ्राणविज्ञानधातुः।
Translation
The nose element, the odor element, and the nose-consciousness element.
Sanskrit
जिह्वाधातुः। रसधातुः। जिह्वाविज्ञानधातुः।
Translation
The tongue element, the taste element, and the tongue-consciousness element.
Sanskrit
कायधातुः। स्पर्शधातुः। कायविज्ञानधातुः।
Translation
The body element, the touch element, and the body-consciousness element.
Sanskrit
मनोधातुः। धर्मधातुः। मनोविज्ञानधातुः।
Translation
The mind element, the mental-object element, and the mind-consciousness element.
Sanskrit
इमे भिक्षव उच्यन्तेऽष्टादश धातवः॥
Translation
These, monks, are called the eighteen elements.
