1. Title and Salutation

Sanskrit

आर्यत्रिरत्नानुस्मृतिसूत्रम् (Āryatriratnānusmṛtisūtram)

भारतीयभाषायाम्-आर्यत्रिरत्नानुस्मृतिसूत्रम्

भोटभाषायाम्-फग्स्-पा-दकोन्-म्च्छोग्-ग्सुम्-जेस्-सु-ड्रन्-पा-म्दो

Translation

The Noble Sutra of the Recollection of the Triple Gem.

In the Indian language (Sanskrit): Āryatriratnānusmṛtisūtram.

In the Tibetan language: Phags-pa-dkon-mchog-gsum-rjes-su-dran-pa-mdo.


Sanskrit

नमः सर्वबुद्धबोधिसत्त्वेभ्यः

Translation

Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.


2. बुद्धानुस्मृतिः (Recollection of the Buddha)

Sanskrit

इत्यपि बुद्धो भगवांस्तथागतोऽर्हन् सम्यक्संबुद्धो

विद्याचरणसम्पन्नः सुगतो लोकविदनुत्तरः

पुरुषदम्यसारथिः शास्ता देवमनुष्याणां बुद्धो भगवानिति।

Translation

Thus indeed, the Buddha is the Blessed One, the Thus Gone (Tathagata), the Worthy One (Arhat), the Perfectly Awakened One. He is perfect in knowledge and conduct, the Well-Gone (Sugata), the Knower of the World, the Unsurpassable One. The leader of persons to be tamed, the Teacher of gods and humans, the Enlightened One, the Blessed One.


Sanskrit

निष्यन्दः स तथागतः पुण्यानाम्, अविप्रणाशः कुशलमूलानाम्,

अलङ्कृतः क्षान्त्या, आलयः पुण्यनिधानानाम्,

चित्रितोऽनुव्यञ्जनैः कुसुमितो लक्षणैः,

Translation

That Tathagata is the natural outflow of merits; he is the non-perishing of the roots of virtue. He is adorned with patience; he is the abode of the treasures of merit. He is variegated with the minor marks and blossomed with the major signs (of a Great Being).


Sanskrit

प्रतिरूपो गोचरेण, अप्रतिकूलो दर्शनेन,

अभिरतिः श्रद्धा(शुद्धा)धिमुक्तानाम्, अनभिभूतः प्रज्ञया,

अनवमर्दनीयो बलैः, शास्ता सर्वसत्त्वानाम्, पिता बोधिसत्त्वानाम्,

Translation

He is appropriate in his sphere of action, and his sight is never disagreeable. He is the joy of those with pure faith and resolve; he is unsurpassed in wisdom. He is invincible in his powers; he is the Teacher of all sentient beings and the Father of Bodhisattvas.


Sanskrit

राजा आर्यपुद्गलानाम्, सार्थवाहः निर्वाणनगरसम्प्रस्थितानाम्,

अप्रमेयो ज्ञानेन, अचिन्त्यः प्रतिभानेन, विशुद्धः स्वरेण,

आस्वदनीयो घोषेण, असेचनको रूपेण, अप्रतिसमः कायेन,

Translation

He is the King of Noble Beings, the Caravan Leader for those journeying to the City of Nirvana. He is immeasurable in primordial wisdom, inconceivable in brilliance, and pure in his voice. He is delightful in speech, enchanting in form, and incomparable in body.


Sanskrit

अलिप्तः कामैः, अनुपलिप्तो रूपैः असंसृष्ट आरूप्यैः,

विप्रमुक्तः स्कन्धेभ्यः, विसम्प्रयुक्तो धातुभिः, संवृत आयतनैः,

प्रच्छिन्नो ग्रन्थैः, विमुक्तः परिदाघ्नैः, परिमुक्तस्तृष्णया,

Translation

He is unstained by desires, untouched by forms, and unmixed with the formless realms. He is fully released from the Aggregates (Skandhas), dissociated from the Elements (Dhatus), and has guarded the Sense-bases (Ayatanas). He has cut the knots (of worldly ties), is freed from anguishes, and is liberated from craving.


Sanskrit

ओघादुत्तीर्णः परिपूर्णो ज्ञानेन,

प्रतिष्ठितोऽतीतानागतप्रत्युत्पन्नानां बुद्धानां भगवतां ज्ञाने,

अप्रतिष्ठितो निर्वाणे, स्थितो भूतकोट्याम्,

स्थितः सर्वसत्त्वालोकनीयायां भूमौ, सर्व इमे तथागतानां विशेषतः सम्यग् गुणाः।

Translation

He has crossed the flood and is complete in wisdom. He is established in the wisdom of the Blessed Buddhas of the past, future, and present. He does not dwell (stagnate) in Nirvana; he stays at the limit of reality (for the sake of beings). He stays on the ground where all beings can behold him; these are the specific and perfect qualities of the Tathagatas.


3. धर्मानुस्मृतिः (Recollection of the Dharma)

Sanskrit

सद्धर्मस्तु आदौ कल्याणः, मध्ये कल्याणः, पर्यवसाने कल्याणः,

स्वर्थः सुव्यञ्जनः, केवलः, परिपूर्णः, परिशुद्धः, पर्यवदातः,

Translation

The True Dharma is good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end. It is excellent in meaning, excellent in phrasing, unique, complete, pure, and radiant.


Sanskrit

स्वाख्यातः भगवतो धर्मः, सान्दृष्टिकः, निर्ज्वरः, आकालिकः,

औपनायिकः, ऐहिपश्यिकः, प्रत्यात्मवेदनीयो विज्ञैः,

Translation

The Dharma of the Blessed One is well-expounded; it is to be seen for oneself, free from fever (affliction), and timeless. It is leading onward, inviting one to “come and see,” and is to be personally realized by the wise.


Sanskrit

स्वाख्यातो भगवतो धर्मविनयः सुप्रवेदितः नैर्याणिकः,

संबोधिगामी, अभिन्नः संस्तूपः, सप्रतिशरणः, छिन्नप्लोतिकः।

Translation

The Dharma-Vinaya of the Blessed One is well-expounded, well-communicated, and leads to liberation. It goes towards full enlightenment; it is non-contradictory (consistent), a reliable refuge, and brings an end to the cycle of rebirth.


4. संघानुस्मृतिः (Recollection of the Sangha)

Sanskrit

सुप्रतिपन्नो भगवत आर्यसंघः, न्यायप्रतिपन्नः, ऋजुप्रतिपन्नः, सामीचीप्रतिपन्नः,

अञ्जलीकरणीयः, सामीचीकरणीयः, पुण्यश्रीक्षेत्रः,

महादक्षिणापरिशोधकः, प्राहवनीयः, आहवनीयः।

Translation

The Noble Sangha of the Blessed One has practiced well; they have practiced rightly, uprightly, and properly. They are worthy of joined palms (respect), worthy of salutation, and are a glorious field of merit. They are the purifiers of great offerings, worthy of gifts, and worthy of hospitality.


Sanskrit

॥ आर्यत्रिरत्नानुस्मृतिसूत्रं समाप्तम्॥

Translation

Thus ends the Noble Sutra of the Recollection of the Triple Gem.
