Muni's PlayVerse 1
Sanskrit
अतीतं नान्वागमयेत्, न प्रतीक्षेद् अनागतम् ।
यदतीतं प्रहीणं तत्, अप्राप्तं च अनागतम् ॥
Transliteration
atītaṃ nānvāgamayet, na pratīkṣed anāgatam |
yad-atītaṃ prahīṇaṃ tat, aprāptañca anāgatam ||
Translation
Do not dwell on the past; do not long for the future.
The past is left behind; the future is not yet reached.
Verse 2
Sanskrit
प्रत्युत्पन्नं च यो धर्मं, तत्र तत्र विपश्यति ।
असंहार्यम् अकोप्यं च, तं विद्वान् अनुबृंहयेत् ॥
Transliteration
pratyutpannañca yo dharmaṃ, tatra tatra vipaśyati |
asaṃhāryam akopyaṃ ca, taṃ vidvān anubṛṃhayet ||
Translation
Whoever observes the present phenomenon exactly where it arises—
unshakable and unmovable—the wise one should develop that state.
Verse 3
Sanskrit
अद्यैव कृत्यम् आतापः, को जानीयान् मरणं श्वः ।
न हि नः सङ्गरस्तेन, महासेनेन मृत्युना ॥
Transliteration
adyaiva kṛtyam ātāpaḥ, ko jānīyān maraṇaṃ śvaḥ |
na hi naḥ saṅgaras-tena, mahāsenena mṛtyunā ||
Translation
Today itself the effort must be made; who knows if death will come tomorrow?
We have no bargain with Death and his great army.
Verse 4
Sanskrit
एवंविहारिणम् आतापिनम्, अहोरात्रम् अतन्द्रितम् ।
तं वै भद्रैकरात्रोऽस्ति, शान्त आचक्षते मुनिः ॥
Transliteration
evaṃ-vihāriṇam ātāpinaṃ, ahorātram atandritam |
taṃ vai Bhaddekarātro’sti, śānta ācakṣate muniḥ ||
Translation
One who dwells thus ardently, day and night without laziness—
the peaceful Sage calls him “one who has a single auspicious night.”
