Rudra as the Lord of Songs in the Rig Veda

गा॒थप॑तिं मे॒धप॑तिं रु॒द्रं जला॑षभेषजम् ।
तच्छं॒योः सु॒म्नमी॑महे ॥

गाथपतिम् (Master of songs/hymns) | मेधपतिम् (Master of sacrifices) | रुद्रम् (Rudra) | जलाषभेषजम् (Possessing cooling/healing medicines) | तत् (That) | शंयोः (Of Sham-yu / prosperity and peace) | सुम्नम् (Benevolence/grace/favor) | ईमहे (We seek/beg).

Translation

We seek the grace of Rudra—the Lord of hymns, the Lord of sacrifices, who possesses healing medicines—that we may obtain the prosperity and peace associated with Sham-yu.
