Sutra 1

Devanagari

कमलात्मिकां व्याख्यास्यामः ।। 1।।

Transliteration

Kamalātmikāṃ vyākhyāsyāmaḥ.

Translation

Now, we shall explain Kamalatmika.

Sutra 2

Devanagari

अन्त्या सा दशसु महाविद्यासु ।। 2।।

Transliteration

Antyā sā daśasu mahāvidyāsu.

Translation

She is the last among the ten Mahavidyas.

Sutra 3

Devanagari

भैरव्यास्तत्त्वेन कमलात्मिकायास्तत्त्वं व्याख्यातम् ।। 3।।

Transliteration

Bhairavyāstattvena kamalātmikāyāstattvaṃ vyākhyātam.

Translation

The essential nature (Tattva) of Kamalatmika is explained through the Tattva of Bhairavi.

Sutra 4

Devanagari

तत्र पृथिवीस्थाना देवता ।। 4।।

Transliteration

Tatra pṛthivīsthānā devatā.

Translation

There (in common understanding), she is a deity of the Earth plane.

Sutra 5

Devanagari

अत्र द्युस्थानेति विशेषः ।। 5।।

Transliteration

Atra dyusthāneti viśeṣaḥ.

Translation

Here, the distinction is that she is a deity of the Celestial plane (Dyu-sthana).

Sutra 6

Devanagari

उषोदेवी प्राचां भाषायाम् ।। 6।।

Transliteration

Uṣodevī prācāṃ bhāṣāyām.

Translation

In the language of the ancients (Vedas), she is the Goddess Usha (Dawn).

Sutra 7

Devanagari

लक्ष्मीरर्वाचाम् ।। 7।।

Transliteration

Lakṣmīrarvācām.

Translation

In the language of the moderns (Puranas/Tantras), she is Lakshmi.

Sutra 8

Devanagari

उत्तमत्वकामः कमलात्मिकामुपासीत ।। 8।।

Transliteration

Uttamatvakāmaḥ kamalātmikāmupāsīta.

Translation

One who desires “Excellence” (Uttamatva) should worship Kamalatmika.

Sutra 9

Devanagari

प्रथमोष्म-अग्नि-शान्तिचन्द्रैः संयुक्तैः ।। 9।।

Transliteration

Prathamoṣma-agni-śānticandraiḥ saṃyuktaiḥ.

Translation

[Her mantra is formed] by the combination of the first sibilant (Sa), Fire (Ra), Peace (I), and the Moon (the Bindu/M). (Note: This forms the seed-syllable Shrīm).

Sutra 10

Devanagari

मन्त्रोऽयं तान्त्रिकः ।। 10।।

Transliteration

Mantro’yaṃ tāntrikaḥ.

Translation

This is the Tantric mantra.

Sutra 11

Devanagari

अस्य भृगुमृषिमाहुः ।। 11।।

Transliteration

Asya bhṛgumṛṣimāhuḥ.

Translation

They say Bhrigu is the Rishi (seer) of this mantra.

Sutra 12

Devanagari

गायत्रीं छन्दः ।। 12।।

Transliteration

Gāyatrīṃ chandaḥ.

Translation

Gayatri is the meter.

Sutra 13

Devanagari

आर्चिकप्रणवो बीजम् ।। 13।।

Transliteration

Ārchikapraṇavo bījam.

Translation

The Vedic Omkara (Archika-pranava) is the seed (Bija).

Sutra 14

Devanagari

अग्निः शक्तिः ।। 14।।

Transliteration

Agniḥ śaktiḥ.

Translation

Agni (Fire) is the power (Shakti).

Sutra 15

Devanagari

बकः कीलकम् ।। 15।।

Transliteration

Bakaḥ kīlakam.

Translation

Baka is the pin (Kilakam).

Sutra 16

Devanagari

षड्दीर्घयुक्तया श्रिया न्यासः ।। 16।।

Transliteration

Ṣaḍdīrghayuktayā śriyā nyāsaḥ.

Translation

The ritual placement (Nyasa) is done using the syllable “Shri” combined with the six long vowels.

Sutra 17

Devanagari

पीता पद्मासना वराभयदा ध्येया ।। 17।।

Transliteration

Pītā padmāsanā varābhayadā dhyeyā.

Translation

One should meditate on her as golden-hued, seated on a lotus, and granting boons and fearlessness.

Sutra 18

Devanagari

‘‘तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि। धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ।।’’ इति गाधिजेन विश्वामित्रेण दृष्ट्या वैदिक्या गायत्रया विद्यया वा ।। 18।।

Transliteration

‘‘Tatsaviturvareṇyaṃ bhargo devasya dhīmahi। dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt।।’’ iti gādhijena viśvāmitreṇa dṛṣṭyā vaidikyā gāyatryā vidyayā vā.

Translation

[Or she is worshipped] through the Vedic Gayatri Vidyā: “Tat savitur vareṇyaṃ bhargo devasya dhīmahi, dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt,” seen by Vishvamitra, the son of Gādhi.

Sutra 19

Devanagari

तत्र सूर्य एव देवता नोषा इति चेच्छक्तिशक्तिमतोरभेदादनया वृद्धाः शक्तिमुपासते ।। 19।।

Transliteration

Tatra sūrya eva devatā noṣā iti cec-chaktiśaktimator-abhedādanayā vṛddhāḥ śaktimupāsate.

Translation

If it is argued that the Sun is the deity there, not Usha, [we reply] that the wise worship the Power (Shakti) through this mantra because the Power and the Possessor of Power are non-different.

Sutra 20

Devanagari

धीप्रचोदकत्वात्सवितापरम एव न सूर्य इति चेत् ।। 20।।

Transliteration

Dhīpracodakatvāt-savitāparama eva na sūrya iti cet.

Translation

If it is argued that “Savita” refers only to the Supreme Impeller of intellect and not the physical Sun…

Sutra 21

Devanagari

सूर्यस्य धीप्रचोदकत्वं नासिद्धमित्यदोषः ।। 21।।

Transliteration

Sūryasya dhīpracodakatvaṃ nāsiddhamityadoṣaḥ.

Translation

…there is no fault, for the Sun’s role as the impeller of intellect is not unproven.

Sutra 22

Devanagari

सूर्यरश्मयश्चैतन्यवाहिनो न जडाः ।। 22।।

Transliteration

Sūryaraśmayaś-caitanyavāhino na jaḍā.

Translation

The rays of the Sun are carriers of Consciousness; they are not inert (material) matter.

Sutra 23

Devanagari

अथास्याः शुद्धमुपासनम् ।। 23।।

Transliteration

Athāsyāḥ śuddhamupāsanam.

Translation

Now, her pure (internal) worship:

Sutra 24

Devanagari

रश्मीनेव ध्यायेत् ।। 24।।

Transliteration

Raśmīneva dhyāyet.

Translation

One should meditate on the Rays themselves.

Sutra 25

Devanagari

इयं मधुविद्योपनिषत्सु गीयते ।। 25।।

Transliteration

Iyaṃ madhuvidyopaniṣatsu gīyate.

Translation

This is sung as the Madhu Vidya in the Upanishads.

Sutra 26

Devanagari

कमलात्मिकोपासनादुत्तमो भवेदुत्तमो भवेत् ।। 26 ।।

Transliteration

Kamalātmikopāsanā-duttamo bhaveduttamo bhavet.

Translation

By the worship of Kamalatmika, one becomes excellent; indeed, one becomes excellent.

Conclusion

Devanagari

(इति दशमहाविद्यास्तन्त्रसारभूताः) ।। इति श्रीभगवन्महर्षिरमणान्तेवासिनो वासिष्ठस्य नरसिंहसूनोर्गणपतेः कृतिर्महाविद्यासूत्रं समाप्तम् ।।

Transliteration

(Iti daśamahāvidyātantrasārabhūtāḥ) ।। Iti śrībhagavanmaharṣi-ramaṇāntevāsino vāsiṣṭhasya narasiṃhasūnor-gaṇapateḥ kṛtirmahāvidyāsūtraṃ samāptam ।।

Translation

(Thus ends the Essence of the Tantras of the Ten Mahavidyas) Thus concludes the Mahavidya Sutram, the work of Ganapati, son of Narasimha, of the lineage of Vasistha and disciple of Bhagavan Maharshi Ramana.
