Section 1: Definition and Cosmic Nature (1–15)

Sutra 1

Devanagari

प्रचण्डचण्डिकां व्याख्यास्यामः ।। 1।।

Transliteration

  1. Pracaṇḍacaṇḍikāṃ vyākhyāsyāmaḥ.

Translation

Now we shall explain Prachanda Chandika.

Sutra 2

Devanagari

षष्ठी सा दशसु महाविद्यासु ।। 2।।

Transliteration

  1. Ṣaṣṭhī sā daśasu mahāvidyāsu.

Translation

She is the sixth among the ten Mahavidyas.

Sutra 3

Devanagari

भैरव्यास्तत्त्वेन प्रचण्डचण्डिकायास्तत्त्वं व्याख्यातम् ।। 3।।

Transliteration

  1. Bhairavyāstattvena pracaṇḍacaṇḍikāyāstattvaṃ vyākhyātam.

Translation

The essence of Prachanda Chandika is explained through the essence of Bhairavi.

Sutra 4

Devanagari

तत्र पृथिवीस्थाना मुख्या ।। 4।।

Transliteration

  1. Tatra pṛthivīsthānā mukhyā.

Translation

There (in Bhairavi), the “Earth-station” (Muladhara/Physicality) is primary.

Sutra 5

Devanagari

अत्रान्तरिक्षस्थानेति विशेषः ।। 5।।

Transliteration

  1. Atrāntarikṣasthāneti viśeṣaḥ.

Translation

Here (in Prachanda Chandika), the distinction is that She resides in the “Atmospheric-station” (Antariksha/Intermediary realm).

Sutra 6

Devanagari

इन्द्राण्यधिदैवतमित्युक्तं भवति ।। 6।।

Transliteration

  1. Indrāṇyadhidaivatamityuktaṃ bhavati.

Translation

It is said that Her presiding deity is Indrani.

Sutra 7

Devanagari

अन्यश्चास्ति विशेषः ।। 7।।

Transliteration

  1. Anyascāsti viśeṣaḥ.

Translation

There is another distinction.

Sutra 8

Devanagari

व्यक्तं चाव्यक्तमान्तरिक्षं ज्योतिः प्रचण्डचण्डिका ।। 8।।

Transliteration

  1. Vyaktaṃ cāvyaktam-āntarikṣaṃ jyotiḥ pracaṇḍacaṇḍikā.

Translation

Prachanda Chandika is the manifest and unmanifest Light of the atmosphere.

Sutra 9

Devanagari

कालीप्रचण्डचण्डिकयोरभेदापत्तिरिति चेत् ।। 9।।

Transliteration

  1. Kālīpracaṇḍacaṇḍikayor-abhedāpattir-iti cet.

Translation

If it is argued that Kali and Prachanda Chandika are identical:

Sutra 10

Devanagari

परिणमयित्री विद्युच्छक्तिः काली ।। 10।।

Transliteration

  1. Pariṇamayitrī vidyucchaktiḥ kālī.

Translation

(The answer is:) Kali is the transformative electrical power (lightning).

Sutra 11

Devanagari

प्रभोरायुधभूता प्रचण्डचण्डिकेति विशेषः ।। 11।।

Transliteration

  1. Prabhor-āyudhabhūtā pracaṇḍacaṇḍiketi viśeṣaḥ.

Translation

The distinction is that Prachanda Chandika is the weapon in the hand of the Lord.

Sutra 12

Devanagari

अत एव वज्रवैरोचनीयेति कथ्यते ।। 12।।

Transliteration

  1. Ata eva vajravairocaniyeti kathyate.

Translation

Therefore, She is called Vajra-Vairochani.

Sutra 13

Devanagari

वज्रं ह्यायुधं प्रभोः ।। 13।।

Transliteration

  1. Vajraṃ hyāyudhaṃ prabhoḥ.

Translation

The Vajra (thunderbolt) is indeed the weapon of the Lord (Indra).

Sutra 14

Devanagari

विरोचनस्य शक्तिर्वैरोचनीया ।। 14।।

Transliteration

  1. Virocanasya śaktir-vairocaniyā.

Translation

Vairochani is the power of Virochana.

Sutra 15

Devanagari

विशेषेण रोचत इतीन्द्रो विरोचनः ।। 15।।

Transliteration

  1. Viśeṣeṇa rocata itīndro virocanaḥ.

Translation

Indra is called Virochana because he shines (Rochate) intensely (Visheshena).

Section 2: Adhyatma – The Internal Yoga (16–31)

Sutra 16

Devanagari

कुण्डलिनीशक्तिरध्यात्मम् ।। 16।।

Transliteration

  1. Kuṇḍalinī-śaktir-adhyātmam.

Translation

In the context of the self (Adhyatma), She is the Kundalini Shakti.

Sutra 17

Devanagari

एकत एव मूलाद्द्विधा गच्छतः भैरवीप्रचण्डचण्डिके शरीरेषु ।। 17।।

Transliteration

  1. Ekata eva mūlād-dvidhā gacchataḥ bhairavī-pracaṇḍacaṇḍike śarīreṣu.

Translation

From a single root, the two—Bhairavi and Prachanda Chandika—travel through the bodies.

Sutra 18

Devanagari

एका सदा वाचे ।। 18।।

Transliteration

  1. Ekā sadā vāce.

Translation

One (Bhairavi/Downward flow) is always for speech/procreation.

Sutra 19

Devanagari

परा योगिनामेवोल्लसन्ती शिरसो द्रावणाय ।। 19।।

Transliteration

  1. Parā yogināmevollasantī śiraso drāvaṇāya.

Translation

The other (Prachanda Chandika/Upward flow) flows upward only for Yogis, to dissolve the head (ego/limitation).

Sutra 20

Devanagari

शरीरस्य च भूयसे मदाय ।। 20।।

Transliteration

  1. Śarīrasya ca bhūyase madāya.

Translation

And for the great intoxication (bliss) of the body.

Sutra 21

Devanagari

तत्प्रतापादेव जीवन्नेव योगी भिन्नकपालः स्यात् ।। 21।।

Transliteration

  1. Tatpratāpādeva jīvanneva yogī bhinnakapālaḥ syāt.

Translation

By Her heat/power alone, the Yogi may experience the “splitting of the skull” while still living.

Sutra 22

Devanagari

व्यपोह्य शीर्षकपाले इति श्रुतिरत्र भवति ।। 22।।

Transliteration

  1. Vyapohya śīrṣakapāle iti śrutir-atra bhavati.

Translation

The Vedic scripture states: “Having cleared the two halves of the skull…”

Sutra 23

Devanagari

तस्मादेतां शक्तिं छिन्नमस्तां व्यवहरन्ति ।। 23।।

Transliteration

  1. Tasmādetāṃ śaktiṃ chinnamastāṃ vyavaharanti.

Translation

Therefore, people refer to this Shakti as Chinnamasta (The Severed-Headed One).

Sutra 24

Devanagari

उपाधिदृष्ट्या सुषुम्णाऽपि प्रचण्डचण्डिकोच्यते ।। 24।।

Transliteration

  1. Upādhidṛṣṭyā suṣumṇā’pi pracaṇḍacaṇḍikocyate.

Translation

From the perspective of its function (Upadhi), the Sushumna nadi is also called Prachanda Chandika.

Sutra 25

Devanagari

इच्छतः सिद्धस्योत्क्रान्तयेऽपि कपालभेदः ।। 25।।

Transliteration

  1. Icchataḥ siddhasyotkrāntaye’pi kapālabhedaḥ.

Translation

For a perfected being (Siddha) who desires it, the skull splits even for the final departure (Utkranti).

Sutra 26

Devanagari

डाकिनीवर्णिन्यौ देव्याः सख्यौ ।। 26।।

Transliteration

  1. Ḍākinīvarṇinyau devyāḥ sakhyau.

Translation

Dakini and Varnini are the two companions of the Goddess.

Sutra 27

Devanagari

इडैव डाकिनी ।। 27।।

Transliteration

  1. Iḍaiva ḍākinī.

Translation

Ida (the left nerve channel) is Dakini.

Sutra 28

Devanagari

पिङ्ग्लैव वर्णिनी ।। 28।।

Transliteration

  1. Piṅglāiva varṇinī.

Translation

Pingala (the right nerve channel) is Varnini.

Sutra 29

Devanagari

सिद्धेषु भगवत्या अभिव्यक्तिः ।। 29।।

Transliteration

  1. Siddheṣu bhagavatyā abhivyaktiḥ.

Translation

The manifestation of the Goddess occurs within the Siddhas.

Sutra 30

Devanagari

यः सिद्धानाराधयेत्स षष्ठीमाराधयति ।। 30।।

Transliteration

  1. Yaḥ siddhān-ārādhayets ṣaṣṭhīm-ārādhayati.

Translation

He who worships the Siddhas, worships the Sixth Mahavidya.

Sutra 31

Devanagari

इत्यध्यात्मम् ।। 31।।

Transliteration

  1. Ityadhyātmam.

Translation

This concludes the Internal (Adhyatma) explanation.

Section 3: Adhiloka – The Cosmic Path (32–57)

Sutra 32

Devanagari

अथाधिलोकम् ।। 32।।

Transliteration

  1. Athādhilokam.

Translation

Now, the explanation regarding the worlds (Adhiloka).

Sutra 33

Devanagari

उपाधिदृष्ट्या देवयानः पन्थाः प्रचण्डचण्डिका ।। 33।।

Transliteration

  1. Upādhidṛṣṭyā devayānaḥ panthāḥ pracaṇḍacaṇḍikā.

Translation

From a functional perspective, the “Path of the Gods” (Devayana) is Prachanda Chandika.

Sutra 34

Devanagari

दुर्गा नामान्तरेण ।। 34।।

Transliteration

  1. Durgā nāmantareṇa.

Translation

She is called Durga by another name.

Sutra 35

Devanagari

दुर्गमा ह्यकृतात्मनाम् ।। 35।।

Transliteration

  1. Durgamā hyakṛtātmanām.

Translation

For She is difficult to access (Durga) for those who have not purified their souls.

Sutra 36

Devanagari

वैरोचनीं कर्मफलेषु जुष्टामिति श्रुत्युक्ते दुर्गाविशेषणे अत्र भवतः ।। 36।।

Transliteration

  1. Vairocanīṃ karmaphaleṣu juṣṭām-iti śrutyukte durgāviśeṣaṇe atra bhavataḥ.

Translation

The two attributes of Durga mentioned in the Vedas are “Vairochana” (Sun-like/Radiant) and “cherished in the fruits of actions.”

Sutra 37

Devanagari

वैरोचनीयैव वैरोचनी ।। 37।।

Transliteration

  1. Vairocaniyāiva vairocaniyā.

Translation

Vairochaniya is indeed Vairochani.

Sutra 38

Devanagari

पुण्यवतां मार्गत्वात्कर्मफलेषु जुष्टेति ।। 38।।

Transliteration

  1. Puṇyavatāṃ mārgatvāt-karmaphaleṣu juṣṭeti.

Translation

Because She is the path for the meritorious, She is “cherished in the fruits of actions.”

Sutra 39

Devanagari

चण्ड्येव दुर्गोच्यत इति चेत् ।। 39।।

Transliteration

  1. Caṇḍyeva durgocyata iti cet.

Translation

If it is argued that Chandi is the same as Durga:

Sutra 40

Devanagari

तत्रापि मध्यमस्थाना परमेव तन्नामेत्यविरोधः ।। 40।।

Transliteration

  1. Tatrāpi madhyamasthānā parameva tannāmetyavirodhaḥ.

Translation

There is no contradiction; “The Middle-Stationed One” (Durga) is simply a higher name for Her.

Sutra 41

Devanagari

गौर्येव दुर्गोच्यत इति चेत् ।। 41।।

Transliteration

  1. Gauryeva durgocyata iti cet.

Translation

If it is argued that Gauri is called Durga:

Sutra 42

Devanagari

तद्वचनं चोपाधिदृष्ट्या ।। 42।।

Transliteration

  1. Tadvacanaṃ copādhidṛṣṭyā.

Translation

That statement is also from a functional perspective.

Sutra 43

Devanagari

आदित्यमण्डलादस्मत्सुषुम्णापर्यन्तमस्ति कश्चन मार्गः ।। 43।।

Transliteration

  1. Ādityamaṇḍalād-asmat-suṣumṇā-paryantam-asti kaścana mārgaḥ.

Translation

There is a path that extends from the solar orb to our Sushumna.

Sutra 44

Devanagari

स चासंख्यशाखः ।। 44।।

Transliteration

  1. Sa cāsaṅkhyaśākhaḥ.

Translation

And that path has innumerable branches.

Sutra 45

Devanagari

तेनायान्ति रश्मयः ।। 45।।

Transliteration

  1. Tenāyānti raśmayaḥ.

Translation

Rays of light travel through it.

Sutra 46

Devanagari

यावन्तः प्राणिनस्तावत्यः शाखास्तस्य पथः शरीर इह रश्मीनामागमनाय ।। 46।।

Transliteration

  1. Yāvantaḥ prāṇinastāvatyāḥ śākhāstasya pathaḥ śarīra iha raśmīnām-āgamanāya.

Translation

As many living beings as there are, so many branches of that path exist for the arrival of the rays into the body.

Sutra 47

Devanagari

सुषुम्णाया एवैषा विभूतिः ।। 47।।

Transliteration

  1. Suṣumṇāyā evaiṣā vibhūtiḥ.

Translation

This is the glory of the Sushumna itself.

Sutra 48

Devanagari

सुषुम्णा न केवलं शरीरमात्रनिष्ठा मुख्या नाडी ।। 48।।

Transliteration

  1. Suṣumṇā na kevalaṃ śarīramātraniṣṭhā mukhyā nāḍī.

Translation

Sushumna is not a primary nerve residing only within the body.

Sutra 49

Devanagari

अपित्वनेकाभिः शाखाभिः प्रपञ्चे ।। 49।।

Transliteration

  1. Apitvanekābhiḥ śākhābhiḥ prapañce.

Translation

Rather, it exists in the universe through its many branches.

Sutra 50

Devanagari

सा रश्मीनधो नयति ।। 50।।

Transliteration

  1. Sā raśmīnadho nayati.

Translation

It leads the rays downward.

Sutra 51

Devanagari

ऊर्ध्वं च शुद्धान्प्राणान्मरणे ।। 51।।

Transliteration

  1. Urdhvaṃ ca śuddhān-prāṇān-maraṇe.

Translation

And at death, it leads the purified life-forces (Pranas) upward.

Sutra 52

Devanagari

तस्या एवैका शाखाऽनन्तसूक्ष्मरजोमयी ।। 52।।

Transliteration

  1. Tasyā evaika śākhā’nantasūkṣmarajomayī.

Translation

One branch of that path is composed of infinite, subtle “Raja” (dust/energy).

Sutra 53

Devanagari

सोऽयं देवयानः पन्था अन्तरिक्षान्नातिरिच्यते ।। 53।।

Transliteration

  1. So’yaṃ devayānaḥ panthā antarikṣānnātiricyate.

Translation

This “Path of the Gods” is not different from the Atmosphere (Antariksha).

Sutra 54

Devanagari

अत एवान्तरिक्षं महद्रज उच्यते निगमेषु ।। 54।।

Transliteration

  1. Ata evāntarikṣaṃ mahadraja ucyate nigameṣu.

Translation

Therefore, the atmosphere is called “Mahad-Raja” (the Great Dust/Space) in the Vedas.

Sutra 55

Devanagari

रेणुका तान्त्रिकैः ।। 55।।

Transliteration

  1. Reṇukā tāntrikaiḥ.

Translation

Tantrics call Her Renuka (Mother of Parashurama, meaning “Dust/Atom”).

Sutra 56

Devanagari

परशुरामजनन्यां तन्नाम प्रचण्डचण्डिका तेजोंशावतारत्वान्मूलोपाधिदृष्ट्या ।। 56।।

Transliteration

  1. Paraśurāmajananyāṃ tannāma pracaṇḍacaṇḍikā tejoṃśāvatāratvān-mūlopādhidṛṣṭyā.

Translation

The mother of Parashurama bears that name because she was a partial incarnation of the splendor of Prachanda Chandika.

Sutra 57

Devanagari

सा च छिन्नमस्ता उच्यते छिन्नशीर्षत्वात् ।। 57।।

Transliteration

  1. Sā ca chinnamastā ucyate chinnaśīrṣatvāt.

Translation

She is called Chinnamasta because her head was severed.

Section 4: The Three Knots (58–74)

Sutra 58

Devanagari

अस्माकं सुषुम्णामार्गे ग्रन्थित्रयमस्ति ।। 58।।

Transliteration

  1. Asmākam suṣumṇāmārge granthitrayamasti.

Translation

In our Sushumna path, there are three knots (Granthis).

Sutra 59

Devanagari

एको मूलाधारे ।। 59।।

Transliteration

  1. Eko mūlādhāre.

Translation

One is in the Muladhara.

Sutra 60

Devanagari

स ब्रह्मग्रन्थिरुच्यते ।। 60।।

Transliteration

  1. Sa brahmagranthirucyate.

Translation

It is called the Brahma-granthi.

Sutra 61

Devanagari

अपरो मणिपूरे ।। 61।।

Transliteration

  1. Aparo maṇipūre.

Translation

Another is in the Manipura.

Sutra 62

Devanagari

स विष्णुग्रन्थिरुच्यते ।। 62।।

Transliteration

  1. Sa viṣṇugranthirucyate.

Translation

It is called the Vishnu-granthi.

Sutra 63

Devanagari

इतर आज्ञाचक्रे ।। 63।।

Transliteration

  1. Itara ājñācakre.

Translation

The other is in the Ajna Chakra.

Sutra 64

Devanagari

स रुद्रग्रन्थिरुच्यते ।। 64।।

Transliteration

  1. Sa rudragranthirucyate.

Translation

It is called the Rudra-granthi.

Sutra 65

Devanagari

तद्ग्रन्थित्रयप्रतिबन्धादस्मासु शक्तिरन्तरिक्षान्न बहुलमवतरति ।। 65।।

Transliteration

  1. Tadgranthitrayapratibandhād-asmāsu śaktirantarikṣānna-bahulam-avatarati.

Translation

Because of the obstruction of those three knots, the (cosmic) power from the atmosphere does not descend into us in abundance.

Sutra 66

Devanagari

भिन्न ग्रन्थौ तु बहुलं प्रवेहेत् ।। 66।।

Transliteration

  1. Bhinna granthau tu bahulaṃ pravehet.

Translation

When the knots are pierced, it flows abundantly.

Sutra 67

Devanagari

मार्गस्य निर्निरोधत्वात् ।। 67।।

Transliteration

  1. Mārgasya nirnirōdhatvāt.

Translation

Because the path becomes unobstructed.

Sutra 68

Devanagari

सिद्धानां व्यष्टिनाडीसमष्टिनाड्या मिलित्वा महामहिमा स्यात् ।। 68।।

Transliteration

  1. Siddhānāṃ vyaṣṭināḍī-samaṣṭināḍyā militvā mahāmahimā syāt.

Translation

When the individual nerve (Vyashti) of the Siddha joins the collective nerve (Samashti), great majesty arises.

Sutra 69

Devanagari

क्रमेण ग्रन्थीनां मोक्षः ।। 69।।

Transliteration

  1. Krameṇa granthīnāṃ mokṣaḥ.

Translation

The knots are released in sequence.

Sutra 70

Devanagari

रुद्रग्रन्थौ भिन्ने निःश्रेयसं हस्तस्थं स्यात् ।। 70।।

Transliteration

  1. Rudragranthau bhinne niḥśreyasaṃ hastasthaṃ syāt.

Translation

When the Rudra-granthi is pierced, Liberation (Nishreyasa) is held in the palm of one’s hand.

Sutra 71

Devanagari

काश्यां तु मरणान्मुक्तिरिति श्लोकपादोऽत्र भवति ।। 71।।

Transliteration

  1. Kāśyāṃ tu maraṇānmuktir-iti ślokapādo’tra bhavati.

Translation

The verse “Death in Kashi leads to liberation” applies here.

Sutra 72

Devanagari

इयमेव काशी यदाज्ञाचक्रम् ।। 72।।

Transliteration

  1. Iyameva kāśī yadājñācakram.

Translation

This Ajna Chakra is indeed “Kashi.”

Sutra 73

Devanagari

अत्र मरणं च ग्रन्थिभेदः ।। 73।।

Transliteration

  1. Atra maraṇaṃ ca granthibhedaḥ.

Translation

“Death” here refers to the piercing of the knot.

Sutra 74

Devanagari

कपालभेदश्च प्रागुक्तो ग्रन्थिभेदसापेक्षः ।। 74।।

Transliteration

  1. Kapālabhedaśca prāgukto granthibhedasāpekṣaḥ.

Translation

The “splitting of the skull” mentioned earlier depends on the piercing of these knots.

Section 5: Ritual and Mantra (75–93)

Sutra 75

Devanagari

योऽन्तरिक्षान्महतीं शक्तिमिच्छति स प्रचण्डचण्डिकामुपासीत ।। 75।।

Transliteration

  1. Yo’ntarikṣān-mahatīṃ śaktimicchati sa pracaṇḍacaṇḍikāmupāsīta.

Translation

He who desires great power from the atmosphere should worship Prachanda Chandika.

Sutra 76

Devanagari

एकादशाक्षर्या ।। 76।।

Transliteration

  1. Ekādaśākṣaryā.

Translation

Using the 11-syllable mantra.

Sutra 77

Devanagari

धेनुः सम्बोधनान्तं सप्ताक्षरं नामास्त्रं शिरश्चेत्येकादशाक्षरी ।। 77।।

Transliteration

  1. Dhenuḥ sambodhanāntaṃ saptākṣāraṃ nāmāstraṃ śiraścet-yekādaśākṣarī.

Translation

The 11-syllable mantra consists of the Dhenu-bija, the name in the vocative case, the seven-syllable name-mantra (Nama-astra), and the ‘Head’ (the concluding mantra syllable).

Sutra 78

Devanagari

सप्तदशाक्षर्या वा ।। 78।।

Transliteration

  1. Saptadaśākṣaryā vā.

Translation

Or the 17-syllable mantra.

Sutra 79

Devanagari

प्रणवः कमला माये वाणी सम्बोधनान्तं ससप्ताक्षरं नाम धेनू अस्त्रं शिरश्चेति सप्तदशाक्षरी ।। 79 ।।

Transliteration

  1. Praṇavaḥ kamalā māye vāṇī sambodhanāntaṃ saptākṣaraṃ nāma dhenū astraṃ śiraśceti saptadaśākṣarī.

Translation

The 17-syllable mantra consists of the Pranava (Om), Kamala (Shreem), Maya (Hreem), Vani (Aim), the name in the vocative case, the seven-syllable name, the two Dhenu-bijas, the Astra, and the Head.

Sutra 80

Devanagari

एतौ मन्त्रौ तान्त्रिकौ ।। 80।।

Transliteration

  1. Etau mantrā tāntrikau.

Translation

These two mantras are Tantric.

Sutra 81

Devanagari

अनयोर्भैरवमृषिमाहुः ।। 81।।

Transliteration

  1. Anayor-bhairavam-ṛṣimāhuḥ.

Translation

Bhairava is said to be the Rishi (Seer) of these.

Sutra 82

Devanagari

विराजं छन्दः ।। 82।।

Transliteration

  1. Virājaṃ chandaḥ.

Translation

Virat is the meter.

Sutra 83

Devanagari

धेनुर्बीजम् ।। 83।।

Transliteration

  1. Dhenur-bījam.

Translation

Dhenu is the Bija (Seed).

Sutra 84

Devanagari

अग्निवधूः शक्तिः ।। 84।।

Transliteration

  1. Agnivadhūḥ śaktiḥ.

Translation

The “Wife of Agni” (Svaha) is the Shakti.

Sutra 85

Devanagari

सम्बोधनं कीलकम् ।। 85।।

Transliteration

  1. Sambodhanaṃ kīlakam.

Translation

The vocative name is the Kilaka (Pin).

Sutra 86

Devanagari

षड्दीर्घयुक्तया धेन्वा न्यासः ।। 86।।

Transliteration

  1. Ṣaḍdīrghayuktayā dhenvā nyāsaḥ.

Translation

The Nyasa (ritual placement) is done using the Dhenu-bija with six long vowels.

Sutra 87

Devanagari

छिन्नस्वमस्तकरवालभृद्द्विभुजा कण्ठोद्गत-रक्तत्रिधारा द्वे पिबन्तीभ्यां डाकिनीवर्णिनीभ्यां सेवितपार्श्वाऽन्यां धारां स्वयं पिबन्ती रतिकामासना ध्येया ।। 87।।

Transliteration

  1. Chinnasvamastakaravāla-bhṛddvibhujā kaṇṭhōdgata-raktatridhārā dve pibantibhyāṃ ḍākinīvarṇinibhyāṃ sevitapārśvā’nyāṃ dhārāṃ svayaṃ pibantī ratikāmāsanā dhyeyā.

Translation

The Visualization (Dhyana): She should be meditated upon as having two arms, carrying her own severed head and a sword; three streams of blood gush from her neck—two are being drunk by Dakini and Varnini who serve her at her sides, while She drinks the third stream Herself; She is seated upon Rati and Kama (the deities of desire).

Sutra 88

Devanagari

छिन्नमस्तायाः सुषुम्णायाः स्वायत्तत्वान्मस्तं करस्थम् ।। 88।।

Transliteration

  1. Chinnamastāyāḥ suṣumṇāyāḥ svāyattatvān-mastaṃ karastham.

Translation

Because the Sushumna (Chinnamasta) is under Her own control, the head is held in Her hand.

Sutra 89

Devanagari

कबन्धादुद्गतं रक्तधारात्रिकं नाड्यग्रादुद्गतममृतधारात्रिकम् ।। 89।।

Transliteration

  1. Kabandhādudgataṃ raktadhārātrikaṃ nāḍyagrādudgatamamṛtadhārātrikam.

Translation

The triad of blood-streams rising from the headless trunk is the triad of nectar-streams rising from the ends of the Nadis (energy channels).

Sutra 90

Devanagari

एकया स्वशिरसस्तर्पणम् ।। 90।।

Transliteration

  1. Ekayā svaśirasastarpaṇam.

Translation

With one, She satisfies Her own head (Consciousness).

Sutra 91

Devanagari

इतराभ्यामिडापिङ्ग्लयोः ।। 91।।

Transliteration

  1. Itarābhyāmiḍāpiṅglayoḥ.

Translation

With the others, She satisfies Ida and Pingala.

Sutra 92

Devanagari

तद्द्वारा सर्वस्य देहस्य ।। 92।।

Transliteration

  1. Taddvārā sarvasya dehasya.

Translation

Through them, the entire body is satisfied.

Sutra 93

Devanagari

रतिकामयोः पादाभ्यामवष्टम्भनेन शक्तेः कामजित्त्वं व्यज्यते ।। 93।।

Transliteration

  1. Ratikāmayoḥ pādābhyāmavaṣṭambhanena śakteḥ kāmajitvaṃ vyajyate.

Translation

By standing on Rati and Kama with her feet, Her victory over desire is symbolized.

Section 6: Higher Meditation and Conclusion (94–108)

Sutra 94

Devanagari

‘‘संहोत्रां स्म पुरा नारी समनं वाव गच्छति । वेधा ऋतस्य वीरिणीन्द्रपत्नी महीयते विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः ।।’’ इत्यैन्द्रेण वृषाकपिना दृष्ट्या वैदिक्या पङ्क्त्या विद्यया वा ।। 94।।

Transliteration

  1. ‘‘Saṃhotrāṃ sma purā nārī samanaṃ vāva gacchati। vedhā ṛtasya vīriṇīndrapatnī mahīyate viśvasmāndindra uttaraḥ।।’’ ityaindreṇa vṛṣākapinā dṛṣṭyā vaidikyā paṅktyā vidyayā vā.

Translation

Through the Vedic “Vrishakapi” hymn or the “Pankti Vidya,” one sees Her through the Vedic vision.

Sutra 95

Devanagari

आत्मनो दृष्टिं निभालयेत्तदस्याः शुद्धमुपासनम् ।। 95।।

Transliteration

  1. Ātmano dṛṣṭiṃ nibhālayettadasyāḥ śuddhamupāsanam.

Translation

To observe one’s own “Vision/Sight” (Drishti) is Her pure worship.

Sutra 96

Devanagari

द्रष्टारं वा ।। 96।।

Transliteration

  1. Draṣṭāraṃ vā.

Translation

Or to observe the “Seer” (Drashtar).

Sutra 97

Devanagari

अहं घटं पश्यामीति वाक्ये घट आत्मा दृष्टिश्च प्रमेयाः ।। 97।।

Transliteration

  1. Ahaṃ ghaṭaṃ paśyāmīti vākye ghaṭa ātmā dṛṣṭiśca prameyāḥ.

Translation

In the sentence “I see the pot,” the pot, the self, and the sight are the objects of knowledge.

Sutra 98

Devanagari

तथाऽपि संसारी तत्र घटमेवानुभवति न दृष्टिमात्मानं वा ।। 98।।

Transliteration

  1. Tathā’pi saṃsārī tatra ghaṭamevānubhavati na dṛṣṭim-ātmānaṃ vā.

Translation

However, the worldly person experiences only the pot, not the sight or the self.

Sutra 99

Devanagari

योगी दृष्टिमात्मानं वाऽनुभवेद्घटस्तस्य तदनुभवनिमित्तमात्रम् ।। 99।।

Transliteration

  1. Yogī dṛṣṭimātmānaṃ vā’nubhaved-ghaṭastasya tadanubhavanimittāmātram.

Translation

The Yogi experiences the sight or the self; the pot is merely the pretext for that experience.

Sutra 100

Devanagari

रात्रौ दीपे प्रभया भासमाने नरः पदार्थान् पश्येत् ।। 100।।

Transliteration

  1. Rātrau dīpe prabhayā bhāsamāne naraḥ padārthān paśyet.

Translation

At night, when a lamp shines with radiance, a man sees objects.

Sutra 101

Devanagari

न दीपं प्रभां वा यस्यान्यपदार्थे सक्तिः ।। 101।।

Transliteration

  1. Na dīpaṃ prabhāṃ vā yasyānyapadārthe saktiḥ.

Translation

He does not see the lamp or the radiance if he is attached to the objects.

Sutra 102

Devanagari

यो दीपं प्रभां वा पश्येत्तस्यान्यपदार्थदर्शनं केवलमानुषङ्गिकम् ।। 102।।

Transliteration

  1. Yo dīpaṃ prabhāṃ vā paśyettasyānyapadārthadarśanaṃ kevalamānuṣaṅgikam.

Translation

For him who sees the lamp or the radiance, the seeing of other objects is merely incidental.

Sutra 103

Devanagari

तद्वदिहापि ।। 103।।

Transliteration

  1. Tadvadihāpi.

Translation

The same applies here.

Sutra 104

Devanagari

इयमुपनिशत्स्वक्षिपुरुषविद्योच्यते ।। 104।।

Transliteration

  1. Iyamupaniṣatsv-akṣipuruṣavidyocyate.

Translation

In the Upanishads, this is called the “Vidya of the Person in the Eye.”

Sutra 105

Devanagari

कैश्चिदुपकोसलविद्या ।। 105।।

Transliteration

  1. Kaischidupakosala-vidyā.

Translation

Some say it is the “Upakosala Vidya.”

Sutra 106

Devanagari

यदुपकोसलाय सत्यकामेनोपदिष्टा ।। 106।।

Transliteration

  1. Yadupakosala-yā satyakāmenopadiṣṭā.

Translation

Which was taught to Upakosala by Satyakama.

Sutra 107

Devanagari

परैः प्रत्यगात्मविद्या ।। 107।।

Transliteration

  1. Paraiḥ pratyagātmavidyā.

Translation

Others call it “Pratyagatma Vidya” (Knowledge of the Inward Self).

Sutra 108

Devanagari

प्रचण्डचण्डिकोपासनादपारशक्तिर्भवेदपारशक्तिर्भवेत् ।। 108।।

Transliteration

  1. Pracaṇḍacaṇḍiko-pāsanād-apāraśaktir-bhaved-apāraśaktir-bhavet.

Translation

From the worship of Prachanda Chandika, infinite power arises, infinite power arises.
