Verse 3.1

Sanskrit

शुभ्रस्मितलेशो मातुर्मरुतान्नः ।
अन्तस्तिमिराणामन्तं विदधातु ॥ ३.१॥

Word-by-word

शुभ्र-स्मित-लेशः (a tiny trace of the radiant white smile) मातुः (of the Mother) मरुताम् (of the seekers/divine powers/those who breathe) नः (for us) अन्तस्तमिराणाम् (of the inner darknesses) अन्तम् (the end) विदधातु (may [it] bestow/bring about).

Translation

May even a tiny fragment of the Mother’s radiant white smile bring a complete end to all the inner darknesses within us.


Verse 3.9

Sanskrit

मातापितरौ यत् तावेकशरीरौ ।
चित्रप्रथनार्था सा काचन लीला ॥ ३.९॥

Word-by-word

माता-पितरौ (the Mother and the Father) यत् (that) तौ (they two) एक-शरीरौ (possessing one body); चित्र-प्रथन-ार्था (for the purpose of manifesting the manifold/variegated universe) सा (that) काचन (some indescribable) लीला (divine play).

Translation

That the Mother and the Father of the universe possess but one single body is an indescribable divine play, intended solely for the manifestation of this diverse and variegated creation.


Verse 3.14

Sanskrit

भक्ताननुगृह्णन् दिव्याद्भुतलीलः ।
तद्विग्रहबन्धो बोध्यो लसदर्थः ॥ ३.१४॥

Word-by-word

भक्तान् (the devotees) अनुगृह्णन् (showering grace upon) दिव्य-अद्भुत-लीलः (He whose play is divine and wondrous) तत्-विग्रह-बन्धः (that assumption of a physical form/body) बोध्यः (should be understood) लसत्-अर्थः (as having a shining/meaningful purpose).

Translation

Showering grace upon His devotees through His divine and wondrous play, the Lord’s assumption of a physical form should be understood as having a radiant and profound purpose.


Verse 3.17

Sanskrit

नास्मत्तनुवत्ते शक्तीश्वरमूर्ती ।
एकाऽमृतरूपा त्वन्या प्रणवात्मा ॥ ३.१७॥

Word-by-word

(Not) अस्मत्-तनु-वत् (like our bodies) ते (those two) शक्ति-ईश्वर-मूर्ती (forms of Shakti and Ishvara); एका (one) अमृत-रूपा (of the form of nectar/immortality) तु (indeed) अन्या (the other) प्रणव-आत्मा (of the nature of Pranava/Om).

Translation

The forms of Shakti and Ishvara are not made of flesh like our bodies; one is composed of pure immortal nectar (Amrita), and the other is the very essence of the primordial sound (Pranava).


Verse 3.18

Sanskrit

दिव्यं घनतेजः कुर्वद् ध्वनिमन्तः ।
सम्पश्यदशेषं मूर्तिः प्रणवात्मा ॥ ३.१८॥

Word-by-word

दिव्यम् (Divine) घन-तेजः (dense light/brilliance) कुर्वत् (producing) ध्वनिम् (sound) अन्तः (within); सम्पश्यत् (beholding) अशेषम् (the entirety) मूर्तिः (the form) प्रणव-आत्मा (of the nature of Pranava).

Translation

The form of the nature of Pranava (Ishvara) is a mass of dense divine brilliance that resonates with internal sound and remains the witness of the entire universe.


Verse 3.19

Sanskrit

दिव्यो घनसोमः स्यंदन् रसमन्तः ।
भुञ्जन् भुवनौघं पीयूषशरीरम् ॥ ३.१९॥

Word-by-word

दिव्यः (Divine) घन-सोमः (dense Soma/nectar) स्यंदन् (flowing/oozing) रसम् (essence/juice) अन्तः (within); भुञ्जन् (enjoying/experiencing) भुवन-ओघम् (the multitude of worlds) पीयूष-शरीरम् (the body of nectar).

Translation

The Divine Mother’s body is a dense mass of Soma (lunar nectar) that flows with internal sweetness; this body of nectar experiences and sustains the entire multitude of worlds.


Verse 3.20

Sanskrit

बोधोऽनवलम्बो दिव्यं खलु तेजः ।
मोदः परिशुद्धो दिव्यः खलु सोमः ॥ ३.२०॥

Word-by-word

बोधः (Awareness/Consciousness) अनवलम्बः (independent/unsupported) दिव्यम् (divine) खलु (indeed) तेजः (light/fire); मोदः (Joy/Bliss) परिशुद्धः (perfectly pure) दिव्यः (divine) खलु (indeed) सोमः (Soma/nectar).

Translation

Pure, independent Awareness is that divine Light (Tejas), and perfectly pure Bliss is that divine Nectar (Soma).


Verse 3.21

Sanskrit

सोमांशमहोंशौ यातो घनभावम् ।
पित्रोर्भुवनानां सङ्कल्पमहिम्ना ॥ ३.२१॥

Word-by-word

सोम-अंश-मह-अंशौ (The portion of Soma and the portion of Light/Mahas) यातौ (attained) घन-भावम् (density/solidification); पित्रोः (of the two parents) भुवनानाम् (of the worlds) सङ्कल्प-महिम्ना (by the majesty of their resolve).

Translation

By the sheer power of the Divine Parents’ cosmic resolve, these two aspects—Light and Nectar—assume “density” to manifest as the forms we can contemplate.


The “Light and Liquid” Philosophy

This is a high-level Yogic teaching. The poet is essentially saying:

  1. Ishvara (Tejas/Pranava): Represents Consciousness (). It is fiery, vibrating, and witnessing.
  2. Shakti (Soma/Amrita): Represents Bliss (). It is cooling, flowing, and experiencing.
