Mantra 4.3.1

Verse 4.3.1.1

Sanskrit

वायुर्वाव संवर्गः ।

Translation

Air indeed is the absorber.


Verse 4.3.1.2

Sanskrit

यदा वा अग्निरुद्वायति वायुमेवाप्येति ।

यदा (When) | वै (indeed) | अग्निः (fire) | उद्वायति (extinguishes/goes out) | वायुम् (into air) | एव (only) | अप्येति (goes into/merges).

Translation

When fire goes out, it merges into air alone.


Verse 4.3.1.3

यदा सूर्योऽस्तमेति वायुमेवाप्येति ।

यदा (When) | सूर्यः (the sun) | अस्तम् एति (goes to setting/sets) | वायुम् (into air) | एव (only) | अप्येति (merges).

Translation

When the sun sets, it merges into air alone.


Verse 4.3.1.4

यदा चन्द्रोऽस्तमेति वायुमेवाप्येति ।

Translation

When the moon sets, it merges into air alone.


Mantra 4.3.2

Verse 4.3.2.1

Sanskrit

यदाप उच्छुष्यन्ति वायुमेवापियन्ति ।

यदा (When) | आपः (the waters) | उच्छुष्यन्ति (dry up/evaporate) | वायुम् (into air) | एव (only) | अपियन्ति (go/merge).

Translation

When the waters dry up, they go to (merge into) the air alone.


Verse 4.3.2.2

वायुर्ह्येवैतान्सर्वान्संवृङ्क्ते ।

Translation

Thus ends the instruction pertaining to the cosmic divinities.


Mantra 4.3.3

Verse 4.3.3.1

Sanskrit

अथाध्यात्मं प्राणो वाव संवर्गः ।

Word-by-Word

अथ (Now) | अध्यात्मम् (pertaining to the self) | प्राणः (Life-force) | वाव (indeed) | संवर्गः (the absorber).

Translation

Now, pertaining to the individual self, Prāṇa indeed is the absorber.


Verse 4.3.3.2

स यदा स्वपिति प्राणमेव वागप्येति ।

सः (He/it) | यदा (when) | स्वपिति (sleeps) | प्राणम् (into Prana) | एव (only) | वाक् (speech) | अप्येति (merges).

Translation

When one sleeps, speech merges into Prāṇa alone.


Verse 4.3.3.3

प्राणं चक्षुः ।

Translation

The eye (merges into) Prāṇa.


Verse 4.3.3.4

Sanskrit

प्राणं श्रोत्रं ।

Translation

The ear (merges into) Prāṇa.

प्राणं मनः ।

Verse 4.3.3.6

Translation

These indeed are the two absorbers.


Verse 4.3.4.2

Sanskrit

वायुरेव देवेषु प्राणः प्राणेषु ॥
