कण्टककेन्द्रचतुष्टयसंज्ञाः सप्तमलग्नचतुर्थखभानाम् । तेषु यथाभिहितेषु बलाढ्याः कीट नरांबु चराः पशवश्च ॥ १७ ॥

Transliteration

kaṇṭakakendracatuṣṭayasaṃjñāḥ saptamalagnacaturthakhabhānām | teṣu yathābhihiteṣu balāḍhyāḥ kīṭa narāṃbu carāḥ paśavaśca || 17 ||

kaṇṭaka—kantaka (points); kendra—kendra (angular) catuṣṭaya = catushtaya (squares); saṃjña—known as; kaṇṭakakendracatuṣṭayasaṃjñās—known as the kantakas (points), kendras (angular), and catushtayas (squares); saptama—the seventh; lagna—the first caturtha = the fourth; kha—the tenth; bha—the zodiac signs saptamalagnacaturthakhabhānām (stem form: saptamalagnacaturthakhabhāna) (neuter, genitive, plural) = of the zodiac signs of the seventh, the first, the fourth, and the tenth; teṣu—in those; yathā—respectively; abhihiteṣu—in those are declared; balāḍhyās—strengthening; kīṭa—insect; nara—human; aṃbucara—aquatic; kīṭanarāṃbucarās—an insect, human, aquatic; paśavas—bestial; ca—and; Note: Scorpio is an insect sign and becomes strong in the 7th house. Gemini, Virgo, Libra, and the upper part of Sagittarius and Aquarius are human signs and get strength when they become the rising sign. Cancer, Pisces, and the lower part of Capricorn are aquatic signs and become strong when they become the 4th house. Aries, Leo, and Taurus, and the lower part of of Sagittarius and the first half of Capricorn are quadruped signs and become strong in the tenth house.

Translation

The houses 1, 4, 7, and 10 are known as Kantaka (points), Kendra (center), or Catushtaya (squares). These houses grant strength to specific signs: human signs are strong in the 1st, bestial signs in the 10th, aquatic signs in the 4th, and insect signs in the 7th.
