When working with an imaginal figure or deity (Yidam), Rob delineates three primary modes of relationship:

  1. Supplication/Asking: Opening to and praying to a numinous “other” that is larger than oneself.

  2. Receiving/Harmonizing: Absorbing the qualities of the image (love, power, compassion) through a kind of “sympathetic resonance” or osmosis.

  3. Union/Communion: The sense of becoming one with the figure, looking through its eyes, and sensing the world with its divine perception.
