The Three-Step Practice: Opening to the Deeper Current
This practice is designed to transform dukkha (suffering/contraction) into a sense of superabundance and life force.
-
Unhook from the Immediate Object: * Ask: “What am I really wanting here? What does the desire really want more deeply?”
- Move from the specific (e.g., “I want that person” or “I want this event to happen”) to the general essence or “deeper purpose” (e.g., “I want connection,” “I want expression,” or “I want heart-opening”).
-
Clear Preconceptions and Introduce Trust: * “Sweep clear the table” of standard Dharma views that desire is purely a defilement or impurity.
- Play with the idea of “Phototropism”: Just as a sunflower turns toward the light, desire may contain a “deeper intelligence of the soul” or a “treasure buried deep down.”
-
Feel and Open the Energy Body: * Identify the desire not as a thought, but as an energetic current, stream, or surge.
- “Open fully, fully, fully” the whole energy body to this movement. Let the libido/life force flow through the being without trying to “let go” of it.
